When it comes to talking and comparing the Southern California Class of 2027 with its immediate predecessor, it’s obvious that it’s a few shelves below the very strong class of 2026 which included McDonald’s All-Americans like Christian Collins (USC), Jason Crowe Jr. (Missouri), Brandon McCoy Jr. (Michigan) and Max Adams (North Carolina) as well as McDees snub and 2026 Jordan Brand Classic invitee Tahj Ariza (Oregon), 2025 Pangos All-American Camp co-MVP Kaiden Bailey (Georgia Tech) and nation’s 2026 #1 Tyran Stokes (Kansas) who spent 2 of his 4 HS seasons in Southern California at Notre Dame HS/Sherman Oaks CA.
With that being said, there are still some very solid 2027 prospects led by the 6-3 NaVorro Bowman, 6-10 Mahamdou Diop, 6-4 Gene Roebuck, 7-3 Cherif Millogo, 6-5 Josiah Nance and 6-5 Jeremiah Profit.
With 30-plus years of experience in grassroots basketball that includes scouting HS prospects since the mid-90s, I understand that player rankings reflect the reality that beauty is very often in the eyes of the beholder. That’s why context is important and credible rankings should aim to justify why a ranker has a player where they have them in their pecking order. That’s why I attempt provide some level of substance and evidence of why I have a player where I do – knowing at the same time that this endeavor is not only an imperfect system but also that it reflects merely a snapshot in time of a young player’s development.
For purposes of this report, the term “SoCal” refers to the geographical area that starts with Fresno to the North and extends East to the Nevada and Arizona borders as well as to the Mexican border to the South. An area with a population of roughly 20 million people.
With that prelude out of the way, NBN Magazine releases our summer Top 40 Southern California rising senior (class of 2027) players.
Top 40 Southern California Prospects (2027)
1. NaVorro Bowman Jr. 6’3” CG Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks CA)
Quick and athletic lead guard with an explosive 1st step has terrific scoring skills and overall basketball instincts. Bowman also uses his quickness with impact on the defensive end where he is excellent on-ball defender. NaVorro had a very productive Nike Peach Jam earlier in July, carrying an undermanned Team Why Not squad although his shooting percentages could be a little better: 20.9 ppg, 3.5. rpg, 3.5 apg, and 2.4 spg with 45.1% FG/36.9% 3FG. Bowman was also a member of the recent 2026 USA Men’s U17 National Team that won Gold at the 2026 FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup in Istanbul, Turkey – averaging 11.9 points, 3.6 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game (1 start). Bowman is ranked #10 nationally by 247 Sports, #14 by ESPN and #16 by Rivals/On3 and has serious interest/offers from the likes of UCLA, Arizona, USC, Indiana. Son of former NFL star linebacker and recent Los Angeles Chargers assistant coach NaVorro Bowman Sr. is an easy choice for me as #1 in SoCal 2027.
2. Mahamadou Diop 6’10” C San Gabriel Academy (San Gabriel CA)
Physical, steady and skilled center is very consistently productive. Dream Vision/3SSB anchor is a dependable rebounder that possesses a soft touch around the cup. Diop won a CIF-State title as a HS sophomore and is a real threat to repeat that feat in 26-27 with a big and deep San Gabriel Academy team. Mahamadou played very well at last June’s Pangos All-American Camp – being #1 in the camp in FG% (70.8% FG) and earning a spot in the Top 30 Game. Diop comes in at #35 by Rivals/On3, #60 by ESPN and #68 in the 247 Sports composite national rankings. Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, TCU, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Creighton, UCLA, UNLV, St. Mary’s and San Diego State are among the schools on his recruiting list. Great kid with terrific attitude and work ethic!
3. Gene Roebuck 6’4” WG La Mirada (CA)
Strong scoring wing with deep range on his jump shot plays with plenty of confidence. Checks in at #39 by Rivals/On3, #51 by 247 Sports composite and #69 by ESPN nationally. Virginia (will visit the Cavaliers in August), Baylor, Boston College, Gonzaga, Oregon, UNLV, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Cal, St. Mary’s and Boise State are among the many schools involved with this Dream Vision/3SSB star, Gene averaged 24 ppg included a 36 point outburst in his last adidas 3SSB league game of the summer vs. Indiana Elite in Rock Hill SC.
4. Cherif Millogo 7’3” C St. Francis (La Canada CA)
Roy Hibbert-type center hails from Burkina Faso on the African Continent. Long and lumbering big man is a formidable rim-protector with good interior scoring skills. Kentucky, Illinois, BYU, TCU and Texas are among schools showing interest at the moment. Cherif is currently ranked #23 by ESPN, #27 by Rivals/On3, #30 by 247Sports Composite. Millogo has had an immigration Visa issue since the end of the last HS season which has sidelined him from action on the grassroots circuit this spring and summer (where he was scheduled to play for Compton Magic Elite). Reports are that that problem should be resolved this month after an upcoming scheduled immigration hearing is held. Will form the West’s and arguably the nation’s best 1-2 frontline punch along with 247 Sports new 2028 #1 7-0 Yann Kamigate for coach Todd Wolfson.
5. Josiah Nance 6’5” WG Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks CA)
Lefty is one of the most improved players in the nation. Well-built frame has a nice shot that is a threat from mid-range as well as from deep beyond the 3-point arc, Nance was one of the pleasant surprises of this past Pangos All-American Camp – averaging 14.3 ppg while shooting 61.1% 3FG (#2 in the camp and 11 total made threes/good for #5 in the camp). Nance is an underrated defender with pesky hands (his 1.5 steals per game was Top 10 in the Pangos AA Camp). Forms one of the top backcourts in the West and nation (with NaVorro Bowman) at Notre Dame. Currently ranked #64 by ESPN, #80 by 247Sports Composite and #81 by Rivals Industry composite. USC, Washington, SMU, Villanova, Illinois, Wake Forest, Boston College, UNLV, UC-Santa Barbara, Virginia Tech, Northwestern and Cal are among the many schools that have offered.
6. Jeremiah Profit 6’5” WG Rancho Christian (Temecula CA)
Talented wing scorer can get buckets in a hurry. Sleek physique allows Profit to slip by defenders off the bounce and has impressive ability to finish at the rim. Very good student (3.4 GPA) is nationally ranked #66 by 247 Sports Composite, #70 by Rivals/On3 and #78 by ESPN. Creighton, Maryland, San Diego, State, Northwestern, Stanford, SMU, Boston College, Kansas State, Seton Hall and TCU are among those involved.
7. Zain Majeed 6’8” PF Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA)
Ultra-confident scoring forward has terrific face-up ability from distance and the strength and bounce to finish effectively at the rim. Top 60 Game pick at 2026 Pangos All-American Camp is a tremendous student (4.0-plus) that averaged 15.5 ppg at that event. Florida State (offer), Stanford, Cal Poly, Northern Arizona and Air Force are among those showing interest. Zain’s style of play reminds me of former Northwestern forward Nick Martinelli (now with the LA Clippers).
8. Maxwell Scott 6’3” CG Corona del Mar (Newport Beach CA)
Tough as nails lead guard with dangerous 3-point stroke is a flat-out winner! Averaged 21.7 ppg with 42% from 3-point range last season as a junior for CDM. One of the most underrated guards in the nation is a clutch shot maker. Fantastic student (4.0 GPA/31 ACT) trains with former Alabama/NC State/Cal State Northridge head coach Mark Gottfried. While Scott is shaping up as a Ivy/Patriot League priority (Harvard, Cornell, Columbia and Colgate are in pursuit) to go along with offers from Wisconsin-Green Bay, UC-Riverside, Cal Poly, Navy and Northern Arizona, he has the toughness, IQ and confidence to play at a higher level.
9. EJ Popoola 6’6” WF Palisades (Los Angeles CA)
Sleek high-octane scorer with high-end agility and athleticism has been limited by injuries over the past several months. Led Palisades to their 1st LA City title in over 50 years last February. Very good student (3.7 GPA) appears to be a package deal with twin brother OJ with UNLV and UC-San Diego being the schools most likely to pull off the daily double. Father Chris Popoola played at UNLV. EJ averaged 23 ppg last season as a HS junior and is ranked way too low at #208 nationally by 247Sports.
10. Zaire Rasshan 6’3” WG Damien (La Verne CA)
Fast rising 2027 prospect had a very good 2026 so far – leading his Damien squad to the 2026 CIF-Division I State championship – scoring 18 points (5 threes) in the title game. Late addition to this year’s Pangos All-American Camp made the most of his opportunity – being in the camp’s top 5 in scoring (17.0 ppg) and tying for top camp honors in most 3s made (15) despite playing in one less game. Very good student (3.6 GPA) is a proven Top 100-150 caliber prospect that has heard recently from Nevada, Yale, Loyola Marymount, Cal Baptist, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal Poly, Montana State, Idaho State, Western Michigan and Arkansas State.
11. Tavid Johnson 6’4” CG Parker (San Diego CA)
High-scoring guard has natural scoring skills. New Mexico coach Eric Olen wasted no time realizing that Tavid was a great fit for his offensive scheme and got him to commit quickly to joining the Lobos in Albuquerque after receiving overtures from the likes of Arizona State (visited) and UNLV. Prolific scorer averaged 24 ppg as a HS junior for coach Mason Biddle. Excellent student (3.8 GPA) is ranked #113 nationally by 247 Sports.
12. Davey Harris 6’7” WF Windward (Los Angeles CA)
Skilled but injury prone big wing with smooth shot averaged 23 ppg and 7 rpg last season as a HS junior. “A” student is visiting Stanford, New Mexico, San Diego State and Cal this Fall and has heard from TCU, SMU and Colorado as well. Older brother JJ Harris is a forward at Loyola Marymount. Harris is currently ranked #165 nationally by the 247Sports Composite.
13. Isaiah Barnes 6’3” CG Crespi (Encino CA)
Isaiah is a confident and crafty guard that averaged 14.6 ppg and 2.4 apg in the Nike EYBL for PG Elite (coached by his dad and former UCLA/NBA forward Matt Barnes). Played on the Mexico U18 national team this past June at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup where he led the team in scoring (18.4 ppg) and assists (3.0 apg). HS coach is his step dad Derek Fisher (former Laker great). Isaiah is hearing from St. Mary’s, New Mexico, Montana and Northern Arizona.
14. OJ Popoola 6’6” WF Palisades (Los Angeles CA).
The other half of the Popoola twins was also an instrumental piece of the Palisades run to the 2026 LA-City CIF title – averaging 18 ppg and forming a formidable trio with his brother EJ and elite 2029 PG Phillip Reed Jr. Very good student himself (3.7 GPA), OJ is a problem in transition, a rangy defender and is ranked #167 nationally by 247Sports (247Sports may be seeing Double and have the twins mixed up).
15. David Conerly 6’7” CG St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)
One of the most intriguing prospects in this regional class, the HS team (Inglewood HS) and AAU teams (Oakland Soldiers and PG Elite) David has mostly played on have had him off the ball as a WG or WF where he has limited immediate value to D1 schools (lack of strength/very thin build). I really like him ON the ball as a big lead guard that has nice ball skills and IQ, good ability to shoot from distance as well as from mid-range and the length to look over smaller defenders and lead an offensive attack like a QB. Averaged 10.7 ppg and 1.7 apg this past Nike EYBL season for PG Elite. Ranked #129 nationally by 247Sports, Conerly looks to be an important piece to Coach Matt Dunn’s rebuilding project in Bellflower. Recent offers include UC-Santa Barbara, Nevada, Jacksonville and Cal Poly.
16. Brooklyn Ross 6’7” WF Aquinas (San Bernardino CA)
Athletic and active wing forward has plenty of promise. 2026 Pangos All-American Camp invitee showed flashes of his versatility and skill package in Vegas – earning a spot in the Top 60 Game. San Diego State, Colorado State (offer), Boise State, UNLV, Cal, UC-Riverside (offer), Cal Baptist (offer), Long Beach State and San Diego are among the schools showing interest in this very good student (3.7 GPA). Dream Vision/3SSB starter is nationally ranked #144 by 247Sports.
17. Damarian Landry 6’6” PF Oak Hills (CA)
Super athletic swingman is a terror in transition and on the rims. Landry also has the physical tools to be a lock up defender. When his raw offensive perimeter skills start to match his great high major athleticism, he could be an intriguing long-term prospect. Landry averaged 10.6 ppg and 4.7 rpg for PG Elite in the Nike EYBL this year. “Mar” has reported offers from Cal, Arizona State, Washington State and UNLV.
18. King Rachal 6’7” WF Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks CA)
My ranking here of Rachal may be of some surprise to lots of people but there is a present disconnect between national scouting outlets like 247Sports (who have King pegged at #41 in the nation) and regional/local scouts like myself and others who don’t have him in that high regard yet. Rachel started his HS career at Granada Hills HS/CA as a freshman on the JV squad where there is no evidence of any notable stats/achievements. He would go on to DNA Prep (which played at my Tarkanian Classic last December) where again I don’t remember anything of significance (he reportedly averaged 7 ppg and 3 rpg on 36% FG on the Grind Session in 25-26). Fast forward to this AAU season and he apparently played well enough with NxtPro/Puma’s CPSA to generate some hype that resulted in a knee-jerk national ranking by some major outlets and forthcoming offers from the likes of UCLA, USC and Arizona State. That buzz also resulted into a NBPA Top 100 Camp invite where I saw him for the first time there (watching all of his 4 games). To be frank, I was expecting more than what I saw: 3.3 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.5 apg, 26.7 FG% and 11.1 3FG%. Not exactly Top 100 caliber numbers. However, I did see a player with nice potential that seemed to have a MM skill level with considerable upside. But he is a long way from realizing that yet and is not better right now than the SoCal players I have ranked ahead of him on this list. That may seem harsh to some who are trying exploit him for their own personal gain, but those are the FACTS and the Truth. After playing at DNA Prep as a junior, this reportedly great student has reportedly enrolled at Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks CA) for his senior year. I will follow his development and if he fulfills his lofty potential claimed by his proponents, I will be more than willing and able to reassess his current ranking here.
19. Malcolm Price 6’1” CG St. Joseph’s (Santa Maria CA)
Younger brother of Stanford freshman guard Julius Price, Malcolm started making noise of his own this past season – averaging 23 ppg as a HS junior. Oregon State and St. Mary’s are among the schools showing interest in this outstanding shooter that averaged 10.1 ppg (51.1% from 3FG arc) during the Nike EYBL this year (playing for Team Why Not). Ranked #102 nationally by 247Sports, Malcolm has recent offers from West Virginia, Oregon State and Yale.
20. Hunter Caplan 6’2” CG SoCal Academy (CA)
Sharp-shooting lead guard with a dangerous downtown stroke more than held his own at last June’s Pangos All-American Camp – was 4th in camp in total 3s made (13). All-Orange County selection last season averaged 17 ppg for Crean Lutheran/Irvine CA. UTEP, Tulane and North Dakota are among his recent offers.
21. Chris Sanders 6’5” PF Redondo Union (Redondo Beach CA)
Strong and physical but undersized forward always seems to produce. Rugged rebounder and terrific defender played a key role complimenting NaVorro Bowman on an undermanned Team Why Not squad that qualified for the Nike Peach Jam – winning 2 of its 5 games in pool play there. Sanders averaged a double-double in North Augusta SC (12.2 ppg/10.9 rpg). Schools showing interest include Montana, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton and Western Michigan. Sanders is ranked #242 nationally by 247Sports composite.
22. Nick Welch Jr. 6’9” PF Rolling Hills Prep (Palos Verdes CA)
Strong as an ox Big Man with solid finishing skills on the block. Nick has nice bounce to explode at the rim when he has time to gather himself. Struggled versus quality length when I saw him at Section 7 in Arizona in June. Recent reported offers include Loyola Marymount, UC-Santa Barbara, UC-San Diego, TCU, Cal and Virginia Tech. Currently ranked #133 by 247Sports composite. His Father and Cali Gold/3SSB coach Nick Welch Jr. played at Air Force.
23. Pierce Thompson 6’3” WG Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood CA)
Very good wing shooter averaged 14.7 ppg (shooting 44.4% from 3FG) on the Under Armour Association circuit this year. Excellent student has received sincere interest from the likes of Utah, Colorado, Loyola-Chicago, Havard, Yale, Columbia, Pepperdine, San Francisco, San Diego, All In Elite/UAA standout is currently ranked #232 nationally by the 247 Sports composite.
24. Rodney Mukendi 6’9” PF Crespi (Encino CA)
Big man with knack for the ball and a passion for working the windex was a big part of Crespi’s success this summer -winning 2 competitive divisions at both Section 7 in Arizona and Nevada Invitational. Big man worth keeping track off this upcoming season.
25. Isaac Hagens 6’6” WF Poly (Long Beach CA)
Hagens is a savvy and crafty 3-level scorer that is still making the transition from a post to perimeter forward. Averaged 14.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg (with 50% 3FG) in his 2 games at the Pangos Premier 80 in Las Vegas in July. Very good student (3.7 GPA) has schools like UC-Irvine, Montana State and Dartmouth monitoring his development. Mother Danielette Coleman-Hagens was a 6-2 All-SEC forward/center at Auburn in the 90s. Dad Brian Hagens (6-8) played at New Orleans and Cal State Northridge.
26. Jordyn Houston 6’7” WF La Mirada (CA)
Skilled WF with nice build and legitimate range on his 3-point shot. Houston has offers from Cal Baptist, Cal State Bakersfield and Sacramento State.
27. Carter Barnes 6’3” CG Crespi (Encino CA)
Second half of Barnes twins is a competitive sparkplug. Carter averaged 5.6 ppg and 1.5 apg in the Nike EYBL for PGE Elite (coached by his dad and former UCLA/NBA forward Matt Barnes). Like his brother Isaiah, Carter is receiving interest from St. Mary’s, New Mexico, Montana and Northern Arizona.
28. Taiwo Daramola 6’8” PF Bakersfield Christian (Bakersfield CA)
Big and strong PF is an ox in the paint. Taiwo can score through contact and is a physical rebounder. Nigerian native has offers from Cal State Bakersfield and New Mexico State.
29. Sloane Harris 6’3” CG Roosevelt (Eastvale CA)
Quick slashing scoring guard plays tough defense. Shot-maker has offers from San Diego and Bethune-Cookman
30. Ritchie Ramirez 6’2” CG Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA)
Savvy combo-guard can knock down shots when he has space to operate. Ramirez plays hard and competes on every play. Solid student (3.1 GPA) has drawn interest from the likes of UNLV.
31. Jaylin Conard 6’3” CG St. Francis (La Canada CA)
Quick and shifty guard is athletic off the bounce. Sat out his junior season at St. Francis due to transfer restrictions. Recent UC-San Diego commit was solid in the Nike EYBL – averaging 10.5 ppg and 2.2 apg for Paul George Elite.
32. Brandon Granger 5’7” PG St. Bernard (Playa del Rey CA)
Cat quick guard lacks size but can really score that ball (averaged 25 ppg last season as a junior). Granger (an All In Elite/Under Armour standout) was injured all summer but has committed to UC-San Diego.
33. Cole Holden 6’2” WG Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood CA)
Accurate 3-point shooter and outstanding student has Harvard, Yale, UC-San Diego, Columbia, Columbia, Pepperdine and Fullerton on his current list of schools. All In Elite 17u core player on the Under Armour Association circuit.
34. Jarell Session 6’4” WG Jordan (Los Angeles CA)
Long-armed wing is a tenacious defender with a nice mid-range jump shot. SoCal sleeper is an efficient scorer – shot 53.8% from the field in his 2 games at the Pangos Premier 80 in Las Vegas in July. Very good student too (3.7 GPA).
35. Carson Butler 6’8” PF Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth CA)
Long and athletic Roosevelt/Eastvale CA transfer is active on the glass and can finish with energy in transition. Carson has some upside worth keeping an eye on.
36. Gary Ferguson 6’2” PG Oak Park (CA)
St. Bernard/Playa del Rey transfer has committed to Sacramento State for football but nonetheless he is still an offensive threat with the rock in his hands.
37. Geovanni Gilpen 6’9” PF North (Torrance CA)
Intriguing long-term prospect with nice length was a surprise invitee to the recent adidas ABCD Camp in Phoenix AZ where he averaged 5.7 ppg. (54.5% FG) in 3 games.
38. Zion Leonard 6’3” WG Rancho Dominguez (Compton CA)
Younger brother of Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard is an assertive and confident scorer.
39. Ilan Nokolov 6’5” WG Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks CA)
Very good “catch and shoot” flamethrower and terrific student (3.8 GPA/1200 SAT).
40.* Earl Bryson 6’2” CG Crean Lutheran (Irvine CA)
JSerra/San Juan Capistrano CA transfer is quick off the bounce, can shoot from distance and has the speed to keep up with top guards defensively.
40.* AJ Okoh 6’0” PG Brentwood (Los Angeles CA)
3-time All-Gold Coast League selection is an athletic scoring lead guard that averaged 18.3 points and 5..3 assists per game last HS season for one of the top coaches in the area Moose Bailey.

* A note about the author of these rankings: Dinos Trigonis has been the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of the Fullcourt Press web site and scouting service as well as an event operator, basketball coach and skills instructor since 1993. Dinos played varsity basketball at Long Beach Wilson High School under coach Jim Ferguson (Long Beach City College PG coached by Lute Olson/TCU/Chicago Bulls 5th Round Draft Pick) and is a graduate of Long Beach State (BA – Political Science) and Temple Law School (Juris Doctorate). While at Temple Law School in Philadelphia, Trigonis founded and was the editor-in-chief of the Temple Political & Civil Rights Law Review. As head coach and director of the Belmont Shore Basketball Club (based in Long Beach CA), Dinos has coached 150-plus players that have received NCAA Division I scholarships as well as 33 players that have reached the NBA. Some of the major events that Trigonis has created and organized include the Pangos Dream Classic (2003 Dream Classic featured LeBron James and his St. Vincent/St. Mary HS (OH) squad playing Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA) at UCLA Pauley Pavilion in front of 13,000 fans on ESPN2), Pangos All-American Camp, Pangos Premier 80, Las Vegas Fab 48, Pangos All-Frosh/Soph Camps and Tarkanian Classic (directs with Grant Rice). In addition, Dinos has worked as the West Coast editor for Clark Francis’ Hoop Scoop and has served as a voting member of the Student Sports Mr. Basketball USA Tracker, Press-Telegram “Best in the West” and SLAM Magazine All-American team balloting and as a coach at the Nike All-American Camp (1996 & 1997). In 2012, Dinos launched a new national online high school basketball magazine – Nothing But Net Magazine (www.nbnmagazine.com) where he currently serves as its Editor-in-Chief. Trigonis was recently inducted into the SoCal Basketball Hall of Fame (Class of 2026) in the same class as Denny Crum, Ben Howland, Stevie Thompson, Stan Morrison and Lucious Harris .
