Nothing But Net Magazine Hooked on Hoops Podcast Camp Recap:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPeymhRUGdY
The camp’s top 60 players were selected by the media/scouts in attendance and were showcased in the two “cream of the crop” games held at the conclusion of the event.
In the Top 30 Game it was camp overall MVP 6-7 2029 Kaleb Banfield (Bella Vista/AZ) scoring 14 points to go along with four boards, two assists and two steals to spark the White unit over their Black opponents 134-102 while his White jersey teammates and Top 30 Game co-MVPs 6-2 2029 Harlem-Noel Graham (game-high 22 points) and 6-7 2030 Cuneyt Demirozu (14 points/four 3s) also had major impact for the winners.
In the Top 60 Game it was game co-MVP 6-3 2029 Dries Ogletree (Windward/Los Angeles CA) having 15 points/4 boards to lead the White unit over their Black Jersey counterparts 104-89. Game co-MVP 6-0 2030 Rylan Westmoreland (Sage/Newport Coast CA) had 12 points and three dimes for the Black team.
While this is a recap of the event, please keep in mind that this is a very early look at underclass prospects that have much room for future growth and are all “unfinished” products.
Listed below are my First 15 of the Top 30 Game selections (in alphabetical order):
Top 30 Cream of the Crop Game Selections/First 15
Kaleb Banfield 6’7″ 2029 Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale AZ)
Banfield is a very skilled, productive, always in motion and multi-dimensional forward that reminds of me of 2027 prospect Zion Green (AZ Compass Prep). In three camp “league” games here, he averaged an impressive 27 points (good for #3 in the camp), 10.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game – while connecting on 38/54 shots from the field (70.3% FG). This Canadian’s consistent and highly impactful effort from start to finish at this camp earned him the unanimous selection from the top media here as the overall camp MVP. West Virginia, Mississippi State and Pittsburgh are among those showing early interest.
Benjamin Davies 6’10″ 2029 Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale AZ)
Huge and well-built post-man pounds the glass and can finish with authority when he catches the rock in the paint. HM prospect averaged 13.7 points and 6.3 boards per game at this camp and is easily a Top 100 prospect in his class.
Cuneyt Demirozu 6’7″ 2030 Campbell Hall (Studio City CA)
Turkish import is a sharp-shooting stretch PF with the body to bang inside and the touch to torch the nets from deep. Demirozu averaged 16.7 ppg over his three camp games and had 14 points/4 threes to help his spur his squad to the Win in the Top 30 Game and earn a share of Game co-MVP honors. Terrific student (4.0 GPA) too.
Logan Gardner 6’4″ 2030 Crean Lutheran (Irvine CA)
Very athletic WG has ultra-bounce (had perhaps the most impressive tip-jam at the camp) and the scoring skills to give defenders headaches. Averaged 18 ppg in the camp before getting hurt right before the all-star games and was unable to play in Top 30 Game. A good time to buy stock is now for this potential HM prospect.
King Harris 6’2″ 2030 St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)
The #1 scorer at the camp – 30.5 ppg (65.9% FG: 38.5% 3FG; high scoring game of 35 points – is a high-scoring lead guard that is crafty off the bounce with high octane output capability. Pesky defender too (averaged 3.5 steals per game).
Benard Kudah 6’10″ 2029 SoCal Academy (CA)
Ghana big man is agile and athletic in transition and is a force on the boards – snatching a camp leading 14.3 rebounds per game as well as averaging double-figures in scoring (11.3 ppg). Benard’s twin 6-10 2029 brother Benjamin Kudah also attends SoCal Academy.
Josiah McCoy 6’3″ 2029 Valencia (Santa Clarita CA)
Santa Clarita Valley sleeper is a soph prospect worth future tracking. Smooth stroke from deep, McCoy is an efficient scorer that rarely forces shots as his 24 points (8/10 FG; 3/4 3FG) effort in his 1st game here showed. Good defender (averaged 3 steals per game/had 4 in Top 30 Game) also averaged 18 ppg over his 3 camp games here on 63.6% FG and 43.8% 3FG. McCoy played well in Top 30 Game – 12 points (5/9 FG; 2/3 3FG). Really love his future potential.
Nico Micelli 6’7” 2029 Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks CA)
Tough and skilled forward averaged 29.5 ppg (good for #2 in the camp) and was very efficient – shooting 56.1% FG and 46.7% 3FG from the floor. Excellent student too (3.8 GPA). 1st offer from Cal State Northridge came recently.
Harlem Noel-Graham 6’2″ 2030 Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale AZ)
Noel-Graham saved his best for last in the Top 30 Game – scoring 22 points (6/9 3FG) for the winning White jerseys in the Top 30 Game and earning Game co-MVP honors in the process. Quick Canadian guard with lethal stroke (as his Top 30 Game performance showed) is also a terrific on-ball defender.
Prince Outler 6’5″ 2030 The U Basketball Academy (Glendale CA)
Well-built and athletic wing had a top shelf reputation coming into HS and he did not disappoint here. Prince had 12 points in the Top 30 Game and will start his career at The U Basketball Academy – a new prep school founded by well-respected NBA skills trainer Olin Simplis.
Brad Pitt 6’4″ 2030 Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale AZ)
Strong and physical power wing is Phoenix-based scout Gregg Rosenberg’s #1 2029 player in Arizona. Pitt (no relationship to the legendary actor Brad Pitt) has explosive athleticism and strength that allows him to be a threat to finish impressively at the rim. Brad averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds per game at this camp.
Blake Poole 6’7″ 2029 Riordan (San Francisco CA)
Strong as an ox PF with nice bounce at cup had 22 points (11/16 FG) to go along with 8 boards in his 1st camp game here. Terrific student too (4.0 GPA) averaged 18.0 points (on eye-popping 73.5% FG).
Phillip Reed Jr. 6’2″ 2029 Palisades (Los Angeles CA)
Phil was sensational in his 1st camp game here. Quintessential lead guard was perfect from field (7/7 FG; 3/3 3FG) en route to 17 points. Reed played well in the Top 30 Game too: 15 points/4 rebounds/3 assists). Arguably as complete a 2-way soph PG as exists out West. Love his poise, decision-making and defensive instincts on and off the ball. Reed (ranked #67 nationally by On3/Rivals) just received an offer from UCLA to add to his earlier ones from UNLV, Nevada and Cal.
Anthony Sarkesian 6’6″ 2029 Chaminade (West Hills CA)
Playmaking swingman and MVP of the Armenian National Team at the FIBA 16U Eurobasket this summer averaged 13.7 points and 9 boards per game here. Strong with the ball, Anthony can score through contact and is a cerebral player on the floor.
Braylon Sherwood 6’6″ 2029 Chaminade (West Hills CA)
Sherwood is a talented young Josh Childress-type scoring swingman with a promising future. Top 30 Game pick scored a personal camp-high 33 points in a camp game on Sunday morning. For the camp, Sherwood averaged 15.3 points (on a very impressive 19/24 FG and 7/8 3FG clip).
Judah Van Ewijk 6’2” 2029 Riordan (San Francisco CA)
Smooth lead guard with a polished perimeter stroke is a back-to-back Top 30 Game selection. Rock-solid ballhandler makes good decisions and is a crafty scorer and pin-point passer. JVE had 17 points (3 threes) and 5 assists in the Top 30 Game.
