The 2026 Pangos Best of SoCal League concluded this past Monday night March 9th at McBride HS/Long Beach CA) – providing us a good evaluation of several top prospects from Southern California and beyond,  Other scouts that came by the league this year included McDonald’s All-American Game selection committee member Frank Burlison, Ronnie Flores and Rodger Bohn (Ball is Life) and Devin Ugland (Prep Hoops).

In this final recap below, I will feature several more that left a lasting impression as well as a few more that deserve to be mentioned again.

Brooklyn Ross                 6’7”    2027   Aquinas (San Bernardino CA)
Cat-quick WF was a tour de force all league long scoring at all three levels and putting up big numbers.  League high of 36 points (15/23 FG; 2/5 3FG) included grabbing 13 boards. Brooklyn averaged 22.8 ppg during the league and capped off a tremendous league with a game-high 31 points (13/17 FG; 4/6 3FG) to go along with 6 rebs in the Best of Best Game to grab a share of league co-MVP honors. Dangerous athletic slashing scorer with nice spot up ability from distance (had 5 threes in one game), Ross is also a regular visitor on the glass and is excellent defender, consistently contesting shot after shot.  Love his upside.  Big time SoCal junior sleeper is a very good student (3.68 GPA)!  Father Maurice Ross played football and ran track at Minnesota.

Camden McKinney           6’7”    2027   Oakland Tech (Oakland CA)
Shaping up as an emerging mid-high Major West Coast 2027 name is this Oakland CA native.  Darrion Williams-type hybrid Forward is a versatile scorer with a sturdy frame that has legit 3-point range. Good rebounder (grabbed league-high 12 boards twice) had back to back 28 point efforts in his pair of games on Saturday with a signature game of 31 points (12/19 FG: 2/5 3FG) along with 9 boards and 3 assists on Sunday. McKinney’s strong and consistent play (23.6 ppg) earned him a share of league MVP honors.  Early offers include UC-Santa Barbara.  Good student (3.4 GPA) had been out of action for a few months dealing with pneumonia which had sidelined him until last weekend. Owen Eteuati-Edwards    6’8”    2028   Arcadia (CA)
Mobile Big plays with energy and consistent purpose.  Versatile and multi-dimensional player impacts the game in the scoring column, on the boards and by being a playmaker for teammates. Owen averaged 25.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game here.  Topped of a great league by having 20 points (8/13 FG) and 6 rebounds in Best of the Best Game and was named league co-MVP.  Owen has early offers from Oregon, Arizona State and San Diego.

Shalen Shepard               6’8”    2028   Crossroads (Santa Monica CA)
Smooth as silk playmaking forward continued showing his versatile skill set here.  Ranked #8 nationally by both the 247Sports.com Composite and by On3/Rivals, Shalen has been offered already by Oregon, USC, Stanford, Utah, Cal and Washington. Shalen’s high game for the weekend (24 points) was followed up by a 19 point (9/13 FG) effort.   

Maxwell Scott                  6’2”    2027   Corona del Mar (Newport Beach CA)
One of the stars of the league’s opening day (March 1st) came back for more smoke on weekend II – posting a 40 point explosion to go along with 20 rebounds. Among the most underrated guards in the West in 2027.

Aaron McMorran II           6’4”    2028   Desert Pines (Las Vegas NV)
Heady WG with very deep range on his perimeter shot, Aaron is wired to scored and his ultra-confidence in his shot extends way past 3-point arc.  Had multiple 30+ point games this past weekend: 33 pts (6/10 3FG) and 32 points.  Good passer too (5 assists was his high in that category last weekend).

Noah Zeola                       6’2”    2028   Orange Lutheran (CA)
Sophomore 3-point sniper showed off other aspects of his developing offensive arsenal including a crafty ability to score at cup with regularity as well as nifty ability to set the table like a waiter at Maestro’s!  Capped of a very strong league with an impressive Best of the Best Game: 15 points (5/8 FG; 2/4 3FG) and 2 assists.

Gary Ferguson                 6’3”    2027   St, Bernard (Playa del Rey CA)
Alpha male lead guard has legit scoring swagger!  Connected for a league high 44 points (17/27 FG; 7/13 3FG) 8 rebounds and 8 assists.  Very good football prospect too.

Isaac Hagens                   6’7”    2027   Poly (Long Beach CA)
Work horse SoCal junior forward averaged 26.2 points and 13.3 boards per game at the league. Dependable scorer on the block that can finish through traffic is also an underrated shooter from distance (was 3/6 3FG in one game), Blue-collar work ethic on the boards (grabbed a league high 24 boards in one game).  Good passer too (5 assists in one game).

Kyle Sanders                    6’11”  2028   Campbell Hall (Studio City CA)
Rapidly growing young Big continues to improve.  Kyle has great promise as an elite rim-protector and his soft hands and solid footwork on the block makes him an emerging interior scoring threat as well.  Kyle has early offers from the likes of USC (dad Yamen played for the Trojans), UNLV and Stanford.

Isaiah Williamson            6’4”    2028   Los Alamitos (CA)
Well-built lefty scorer-supreme can really fill it up. Isaiah had back to back 26 and 22 point efforts on Sunday.  Williamson rebounds very well for his size too (grabbed 12 boards in one game). Older brother Isaac is a freshman guard for UNLV this year and won a CA Open Division state title last year with Roosevelt/Eastvale CA and current Arizona fab freshman Brayden Burries.

Jakobi Oware                   6’7”    2028   Poly (Long Beach CA)
Another promising soph prospect here was the skilled Jakobi.  Oozing with immense long-term potential, Oware can create his own shot off the bounce, dial from deep and can finish with authority at the hoop.  High-scoring game was a 32 point affair here.  Outstanding student was a consensus Best of the Best Game selection.

Carter Parker                    6’5”    2028   Vasquez (Acton CA)
Fresh off leading his Vazquez (Acton CA) squad to the CIF-State Division IV Regional Final, Carter made an appearance at the league and displayed why he is one of the most improved soph WGs on the West Coast.  Followed up an initial 17 points (7/13 FG; 3/6 3FG) with an impressive 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists affair.

Jeremiah Lark                  6’4”    2026   Oak Hills (CA)
Strong and physical WG is is explosive at the rim and a ferocious rebounder for his size. Unsigned senior had 22 points (11/18 FG), 9 rebounds and 3 steals.

Josahn Webster               6’4″    2026   Rolling Hills (Palos Verdes CA)
Sturdy and high scoring WG can light up the scoreboard.  Poured in 31 points and nabbed 8 rebounds last Sunday.

Van Moczydlowsky          6’4”    2028   Crossroads (Santa Monica CA)
Lefty sharpshooter with excellent basketball IQ. Van played well in Best of the Best Game – scoring 10 points (2 threes), 4 assists and 2 steals.

RJ Ball                              6’3”    2028   Beverly Hills (CA)
Ball got better as the league progressed and I came away impressed more and more with his ability to distribute the ball as well as score in the mid-range as well as from the 3-point stripe. Signature weekend performance was a 22 point/7 assist effort. RJ has the tools to be a very good defender (had 3 steals in the Best of the Best Game).

Elijah Goodman               6’8”    2027   Pacifica Christian OC (Newport Beach CA)
My first real hard look at Goodman was a good one. Long and active rim-runner was productive and involved in the action baseline to baseline all league long. Played well in Best of Best Game: 10 points (5/8 FG and 3 rebs).

Troy Arthon                     6’8”    2028   Chaminade (West Hills CA)
Skilled face-up forward with range on his jump shot has good defensive mobility. Arthon had an efficient 12 points (5/7 FG) and 3 boards on Best of Best Game.

Chukwuma Ezinwa          6’2”    2027   King (Riverside CA)
Athletic combo-guard had impressive moments here including three 21 point games. Quick and crafty off the bounce with nice ability to dial from distance (was 5/9 3FG) in one game), Chukwuma also boarded well for his size (9 boards in one game). Consistent and productive play earned him a spot in Best of Best Game.

Denis Woods                   6’3”    2026   Prestige Worldwide (FL}/Inglewood CA
Bishop Montgomery (CA) grad spent this past season at a Florida prep school.  Back home for spring break, Denis looked stronger and sharp – going for 13 points (6/10 FG: 1/2 3FG) 4 rebs, 4 assists and 3 steals in his opening game followed by 16 points (7/12 FG) and 4 assists in his second.

Gavin Kroll                       6’6”    2026   Cypress (CA)
Very improved unsigned senior forward has a high motor to go with a versatile skill set. More than impressive in Best of Best Game: 23 points (9/11 FG; 5/7 3FG) to go along with 9 boards for winning team.
James Wright                  6’10”  2026   Loyola (Los Angeles CA)
One of the surprises of the league (I had no idea Loyola even had a 6-10 guy this year) got better and better as the league progressed. Extremely physical center with size and intensity was incredibly active in Best of the Best Game: 15 points/14 boards. Best days of hoop are ahead of him.

Bryce Iwuoha                   6’7”    2026   St. Monica (Santa Monica CA)
Blue-collar and strong PF is active on the glass and can score in bunches down low.  Games of 26 points (12/17 FG) and 7 rebounds and 25 points and 10 boards were examples of his effective presence on the floor.

Kavan Bowden                6’3”    2027   Rancho Cucamonga (CA)
Athletic guard with confident scoring mentality erupted for 36 points (6 threes), 6 boards and 4 assists in one game this past week to go along with another 24 point effort. Very good on-ball defender.

Will Malual                       6’9”    2026   Crean Lutheran (Irvine CA)
Long and athletic forward is an excellent defender and rebounder.

Zion Leonard                     6’3”     2027   Rancho Dominguez (Compton CA)
Younger brother of LA Clipper Kawhi Leonard has nice scoring instincts of his own.

Solomon Huang                 6’0”     2027   Pacific Christian (Newport Beach CA)
Cerebral PG is a sound decisionmaker had a near triple-double (12 points/8 boards/9 assists) last Saturday.

Chris Rupert                    6’10”  2027   St. Bernard (Playa del Rey CA)
Big man with strength and length had an impressive double/double (12 points/16 boards) in one of his league games.

Krawford Bailey                6’5”    2029   Santa Margarita (CA)
Younger brother of Georgia Tech signee Kaiden Bailey had wait his turn as a freshman on a loaded Santa Margarita squad this past season.  Scoring wing with size had 21 points on Sunday.

Noel Matock                     6’4”    2026   ELEV8 Academy (CA)
Serbian import has nice ball skills and nice pull-up jumper. High game was 17 points.

Dezahn Otis Jr.                6’4”    2028   Chaparral (Las Vegas NV)
Slashing scorer is quick off the bounce and is a pesky defender.

Toby Ojo                          6’2”    2028   West (Torrance CA)
Outstanding student (4.0+ GPA) and athlete (also plays track) is an active on-ball defender and slashing scorer.

Xavier Foster                   6’3”    2028   Rancho Cucamonga (CA)
Athletic scoring wing is quick to the cup off the bounce and a good rebounder.  High league game: 17 points and 6 rebounds. 

Marco Varani                     6’7”     2026   ELEV8 Academy (CA)
Seattle native is a nimble swingman with sweet long-distance stroke.

Jordan Frerichs                 6’4”     2028   Crossroads (Santa Monica CA)
Very improved WG with nice perimeter stroke.

DJ Meekins                       6’3”     2029   Mayfair (Lakewood CA)
Son of Mayfair coach Donnell Meekins, DJ is a strong and well-built young wing that absorbs and scores through contact and is a fearless competitor.

Jonathan Vasquez-Dao     5’8”     2028   Fountain Valley (CA)
Small PG has very confident 3-point stroke.

Colton Willis                      5’11”   2028   Marina (Huntington Beach CA)
Quick point guard has elusive ballhandling skills and ability to stop on a dime and pull up for mid-range jump shot.
