The 2020 Pangos Terrific 24 started Friday night July 17th at the Factory D1 in Indianapolis IN and featured 40 travel teams not just from throughout the Midwest but also from the West and East Coasts as well.
BallerTV.com is live-streaming all the games for this tourney and viewership averaged 250+ viewers per game on Friday night. There is lots of D1 talent on-hand here in Indy and I will have much to write about after the event is over but here are an early glimpse at 15 players that caught my eye on opening night.
DaRon Holmes 6’9” 2021 Montverde Academy (FL)
Goodyear AZ native has emerged recently as a serious West Coast contender for the 2021 McDonald’s Game. Extremely quick off his feet and bouncy around the cup, Holmes runs the floor like a gazelle and has added a very soft perimeter jump shot to his offensive arsenal. DaRon had 22 points (including a “3”) versus a very pesky and physical George Hill All-Indy squad. Terrific long-term pro upside!
Michael Foster 6’9” 2021 Hillcrest (Phoenix AZ)
Top 5 national rising senior is a physical and explosive PF that impacts the game on both ends. Milwaukee WI native is a rugged rebounder and formidable rim-protector as well as a potent interior scorer. Host of power schools in pursuit include Kansas, Arizona, Marquette, Florida State, LSU, Georgia, Baylor, Arizona State and Arkansas.
Malaki Branham 6’5” 2021 St. Vincent-St. Mary (Akron OH)
Top 30 national rising senior has offers from the likes of Ohio State, Louisville, Alabama & Xavier. Big and athletic wing guard is fast in transition and can finish with regularity in traffic. Very good perimeter shooter with range too.
Baye Fall 6’11” 2023 Lutheran (Parker CO)
Very long and athletic young post-player is active at both ends and is oozing with elite HM potential. Top 10 national prospect in 2023 class.
Shamar Avance 6’0” 2021 Lawrence North (Indianapolis IN)
Really love the toughness and ball skills of Avance. Patrick Beverly-type playmaker is an excellent on-ball defender and had 14 points in an impressive win for George Hill All-Indy over Belmont Shore on opening night.
Brooks Barnhizer 6’6” 2021 Jefferson (Lafayette IN)
My first look at the Northwestern-bound Barnhizer was a very favorable one. Strong swingman with excellent shooting stroke had 20 points in Indiana Elite/Team Indiana’s big win over AWAIT/IN.
PJ Edwards 6’2” 2021 Minnesota Preparatory Academy (Minneapolis MN)
Strong wing that can really score is also a terrific defender. Indiana native had 16 points for George Hill All-Indy versus Belmont Shore on Friday night.
Brandon Weston 6’5” 2021 Morgan Park (Chicago IL)
Athletic and muscular WG with long-range perimeter stroke. Appears headed to Hillcrest (Phoenix AZ) this Fall.
Joseph Hunter 6’5” 2022 San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno CA)
One of the fastest rising members of the 2022 national class is “JoJo” Hunter. Big lead guard can push the rock in transition and has pin-point passing ability. Very good defender and Top 50 national rising junior has offers from the likes of Arizona, Illinois, Nebraska and Ole Miss.
Darrell Reed 6’8” 2021 Hammond (IN)
Active and athletic PF had 16 points in Y-n-R’s blow-out win over Hawks Elite (AL)
Jakobi Heady 6’7” 2021 Hillcrest (Country Club Hills IL)
Y-n-R forward with nice 3-point stroke connected on 4 threes en route to 18 points vs. Hawks Elite (AL).
Jalen Hooks 6’7” 2023 Franklin Central (Indianapolis IN)
One of the most talented rising sophs at this year’s Terrific 24 is the Indianapolis IN native Hooks (Illinois Stars 2022). A rugged forward that can score in traffic, Jalen is reportedly headed to Crispus Attucks/Indianapolis after attending Franklin Central as a freshman.
Assane Diop 6’10” 2023 Belleview Christian (Westminster CO)
Baye Fall’s Colorado Hawks teammate Diop is also a legit elite HM prospect in his own right. Emerging name in rising national soph class.
JaVaughn Hannah 6’4” 2022 Mount Clemons (Mt. Clemens MI)
Talented WG had 22 points in Illinois Stars 2022 victory on Friday night. Marquette, Arizona State, DePaul, Texas A&M, Butler and Seton Hall are among those that have offered.
Jack Groeteke 6’10” 2021 Dowling Catholic (West Des Moines IA)
Long forward with accurate shooting stroke had 16 points for Beyond Ball Friday night.
