Nothing But Net Magazine Hooked on Hoops Podcast Camp Recap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wiRgxIOti4
The camp’s top 60 players were selected by the media/scouts in attendance and were showcased in the two “cream of the crop” games held at the conclusion of the event.
In the Top 30 Game it was 6-10 2029 Mamadou Issa Sow (CIA Bella Vista/AZ) shooting a crisp 7/8 from the field en route to 15 points and grabbing 5 boards to go along with 3 steals and 2 blocks to propel his White unit to a 103-96 win as well as a share of game MVP honors. Sow’s dominance on both ends of the floor was complimented by 13 points from 6-7 2028 Troy Arthon (Chaminade/West Hills CA), 13 points from Top 60 Game co-MVP 6-2 2028 Chace Patterson (St. John Bosco/Bellflower CA) and 10 points from 6-0 2029 Quali Giran (Millikan/Long Beach CA). 6-2 2029 Phil Reed Jr. (Palisades/Los Angeles CA) was the catalyst for the Black squad – shooting 6/11 FG; 2/4 3FG en route to 14 points and producing 7 boards and 5 steals (both game-highs). Reed’s prime time effort resulted in a share of game MVP honors and was augmented by Sin City sharpshooter 6-4 2028 Aaron McMorran II (Desert Pines/Las Vegas NV) who connected for a game high 16 points and 6-4 2028 Carter Parker (Vasquez/Acton CA) who added 12 points (5/8 FG; 2/4 3FG). In the Top 60 Game it was game co-MVPs 6-0 2028 Miles Cooper (College Park/Pleasant Hill CA) and 6-2 2028 Chace Patterson (St. John Bosco/Bellflower CA) scoring 17 points a piece to spark the Black team over the White jerseys 91-86 in a hard-fought, well-played game. That MVP effort from both Cooper and Patterson led them to be bumped up to the Top 30 Game. 5-11 2028 DaShaun Harris (Democracy Prep/Las Vegas NV) led the White team with a team-high 15 points.
While this is a recap of the event, please keep in mind that this is a very early look at underclass prospects that have much room for future growth and are all “unfinished” products.
Listed below are the Top 30 Game selections (in alphabetical order):
Top 30 Cream of the Crop Game Selections
Troy Arthon 6’7” 2028 Chaminade (West Hills CA)
Skilled and long WF with deep range on his jump shot and ability to slash and score as well. Troy capped off an impressive camp with 13 points (5/8 FG; 2/2 3FG) and 4 rebounds in the Top 30 Game.
RJ Ball 6’3″ 2028 Beverly Hills (CA)
Long and sleek WG is fast with the rock and rebounds well for size.
Tayshaun Bozeman 6’1″ 2028 Salesian (Richmond CA)
Shifty playmaker has real “slice & dice” ability. Very good student has nice court vision and plays very good Defense. Tayshaun’s high scoring game was a 20 point affair. TB should develop nicely under one of California’s top HS coaches Bill Mellis.
Terrance Byrd 6’6″ 2028 Sandra Day O’Connor (Phoenix AZ)
Byrd wasted no time after the camp’s opening bell with a monster first game: 25 points (19 in 2nd half) including the winning bucket in his team’s 82-81 win. Strong swingman with versatile scoring skills is a emerging soph star on the rise in the Copper State. Terrance plays with lots of intensity and confidence and capped off an impressive camp with 12 points (6/12 FG) and 6 boards in Top 30 Game.
Miles Cooper 6’0″ 2028 College Park (Pleasant Hill CA)
One of the top scorers at the camp parlayed great play in the Top 60 Game (earning game co-MVP honors by scoring 17 points) into a berth in the Top 30 Game.Cooper had the high scoring game of the camp with a 35 outburst on Saturday.
Semaj Cuyler 6’3″ 2028 CIA Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale AZ)
Big and stocky combo-guard with a nice burst off the bounce.
Oumar Dabo 6’8″ 2028 San Gabriel Academy (San Gabriel CA)
Strong as an ox PF was compared by scouts here to Donnell Harvey (Florida/NBA). Oumar built on his Top 60 Game selection last year with a performance worthy of being named to the Top 30 Game this year. Dabo was a key contributor on SGA’s 2025 State Division III championship squad last March.
Hudson Dannels 6’8″ 2028 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas NV)
Skilled face-up forward with accurate touch on jump shot is an underrated athlete.
Marceles Duncan 6’5″ 2028 Rangeview (Aurora CO)
Strong and well-built wing can finish through contact and explode at the rim as well as spot up from distance. Very good looking Rocky Mountain region soph prospect had his camp-high of 20 points on Saturday.
Quali Giran 6’0″ 2029 Millikan (Long Beach CA)
Coming out of the gates strong, Quali wasted no time displaying his worth as one the nation’s top freshmen playmakers. Smooth and polished PG with shifty ball skills, Giran has a potent perimeter shot and High-Major trajectory. Scored a cool 22 pts (2 “3s”) in 1st game on Saturday. Capped off an impressive camp with 10 points (4/7 FG) in the Top 30 Game.
Ruach Gony 6’8″ 2029 CIA Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale AZ)
I was very impressed with Gony’s improvement from a year ago (he came to this camp a year ago but made no all-star game). Long and wiry forward is very athletic in transition and is an excellent slashing scorer. Ruach’s length and quickness make him a very good defender too. Gony was arguably the best shot-blocker in attendance.
Noah Grossman 6’4″ 2028 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas NV)
One of the most consistently productive players here was Grossman. Rangy and athletic WG with sweet shooting stroke can put points on scoreboard (25 pts in 1st game on Saturday).
Larry Jenkins 6’9″ 2028 Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains NY)
Young East Coast prospect with high-major upside is athletic at the rim and is effective attacking the cup from the perimeter. Good rebounder with potential to be a formidable rim-protector.
Bre’vynn Johnson 6’0″ 2029 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas NV)
BJ is a very dynamic and ultra-athletic lead guard that has great command with the ball and the strength and instincts to make plays at both at both ends. Bre’vynn was also impressive in the Top 30 Game – scoring 9 points on perfect shooting (4/4 FG; 1/1 3FG) including a three-point daggar to end the 1st half to go along with 3 assists in 15 minutes. Johnson’s 28 point explosion on Saturday was his camp high. As good a 2029 PG that I’ve seen so far.
Aiden Kindrick 6’4″ 2028 Eagle (Eagle ID)
One of the major revelations here was Kindrick. Northwest “diamond in the rough” is a sleek WG with nice perimeter touch and has the toughness necessary to score through contact on way to the rim. Good student (3.5 GPA) too.
Jack Loevner 6’5″ 2028 Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco CA)
Sturdy WF with nice jump shot moves well with out the ball and always seems to be in the middle of the action. Good rebounder too (grabbed 5 boards in Top 30 Game).
Joseph Mariles 6’4″ 2029 Damien (La Verne CA)
Very confident WG plays with lots of moxie and has deep range on his jump shot. Very good passer had game-high 5 assists in Top 30 Game.
Aaron McMorran II 6’4″ 2028 Desert Pines (Las Vegas NV)
Making a strong case for top shooter here was McMorran. Scored game-high 16 points in Top 30 Game (including 2 NBA range 3s). Excellent student (3.75 GPA) had 32 points (6 threes) on Sunday morning.
Leo Onishchenko 6’6″ 2028 Adrian Nelson (Happy Valley OR)
I really liked what I saw from Leo, Skilled and agile WF with nice shooting stroke and the quick feet that allow him to be a solid defender. Good student is also sneaky athletic.
Jakobi Oware 6’6″ 2028 Poly (Long Beach CA)
Jakobe continues to make recent noise as a hot emerging name in the national soph class. Athletic and versatile forward brimming with real High Major potential. Older brother 6-9 2026 Jonas Oware is a coveted Ivy League recruit (recently visited Yale and Harvard) and if Jakobi can come close to growing to his brother’s height his value will skyrocket even further. Like Jonas, Jakobi is an off the charts student too (4.2 GPA). Jakobi’s recent early offers from UC-Santa Barbara and UC-Riverside won’t be his last.
Carter Parker 6’4″ 2028 Vasquez (Acton CA)
On verge of a break-out HS soph season, “Sleepy” Parker showed his offensive fire power on the camp’s Day One: 32 points (20 in 2nd half). Lefty sharp-shooter with deep and accurate range has blossoming athleticism and an on-court personality reminiscent of former NBA guard Eric “Sleepy” Floyd (Georgetown/Golden State Warriors).
PJ Parker 6’9″ 2028 McClatchey (Sacramento CA)
I really like PJ’s rapid improvement since last year’s camp (made the Top 60 Game in 2024 and was ranked #34 in Ronnie Flores’ 2024 post-camp rankings). Agile Dereck Lively-type rim-runner is an active shot-blocker/rebounder and authoritative finisher at rim. “A” student had impressive 1st game here and never looked back. PJ’s consistent productive play and great attitude earned the respect of scouts here and resulted in him being named overall camp MVP. Bright future for a kid with a great attitude.
Chace Patterson 6’2″ 2028 St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)
Very underrated SoCal 2028 prospect in the son of former UCLA/Tennessee forward Andre Patterson. Crafty lead guard can score in a variety of ways and has very good court instincts. Originally selected to the Top 60 Game, Chace’s 17 points in that contest led to him earning a spot in the Top 30 Game as well. Patterson looks to play a bigger role in SJB’s program this upcoming season as a sophomore.
Kainoa Patton 6’4” 2028 Centennial (Corona CA)
Well-built WG with nice bounce has instinctive scoring skills. Patton’s top scoring game at the camp was 26 points on Saturday. Patton looks to be Corona Centennial’s #2 scoring option behind Stanford-bound Isaiah Rogers this year for Coach Josh Giles.
Jaden Redding 6’5” 2028 Democracy Prep (Las Vegas NV)
Athletic slashing scorer with strength is a real threat in transition and as a downhill scorer.
Phillip Reed Jr. 6’2″ 2029 Palisades (Los Angeles CA)
Phil is quickly establishing himself as one of the best 2-way PGs in his national class. Quick and savvy playmaker can score from both distance and by driving to the cup. Mid-range jumper is a weapon he utilizes effectively too. Terrific defender gives ballhandlers fits with excellent on-ball pressure and his fantastic reaction to the ball in the air makes him a defender that covers terrain like a top-notch DB. Reed answered the opening bell of the Top 30 Game with that contest’s first 5 points and displayed why I have been a big proponent of his ability over the last several months: 14 points (6/11 FG; 2/4 3FG), 7 boards and 5 steals (both game-highs) to go along with 3 assists and 2 blocks in 16+ minutes of action. Named Top 30 Game co-MVP.
Braylon Sherwood 6’4″ 2029 Chaminade (West Hills CA)
Sherwood is a talented young Josh Childress-type scoring swingman with a promising future. Top 30 Game pick scored a personal camp-high 33 points in a camp game on Sunday morning.
Mamadou Issa Sow 6’10″ 2029 CIA Bella Vista Prep (Scottsdale AZ)
It didn’t take long to notice Mamadou’s impact here. Senegal native is a strong Big with very nice perimeter touch and good energy/physicality on the boards. Sow’s presence on both ends was definitely felt in the Top 30 Game as he scored 15 points (1 three) and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead his team to the Win – earning game co-MVP honors in the process. Top 10 national caliber 2029 prospect.
Anthony Smith 6’4″ 2028 Clovis (Clovis CA)
Strong and assertive WF showed very good propensity to score in the paint and through contact. Smith’s 27 points on Saturday was his camp high.
Judah Van Ewijk 6’1″ 2029 Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco CA)
Baby-faced combo-guard is smooth with the ball and makes good decisions. Crafty scorer and pin-point passer.
Isaiah Williamson 6’4″ 2028 Los Alamitos (CA)
One SoCal soph to keep an eye on is the younger brother of current UNLV guard Isaac Williamson (2025 Roosevelt/Eastvale CA state champions). Strong and physical wing that can score will compliment underrated 2026 guard Tyler Lopez as Los Al works to rebuild after a CIF-SS championship last season.
Brice Yancey 6’0″ 2028 Cardinal Hayes (Bronx NY)
East coast lead guard has nice “shake and bake” ball handling skills with very good distributing skills.Good on-ball defender too.
