The 2020 Pangos Dandy Dozen was held late last month (Sunday June 28th) in Long Beach CA and featured a nice bunch of SoCal’s competitive travel teams including Dream Vision, Cali Stars, Belmont Shore, Dream Vision Next, Coastal Slayers Elite, Cali Rebels, OC Pride, SoCal Buzz and Ocean City Elite.  Media and scouts (other than myself) on hand included Frank Burlison (BurlisononBasketball.com/McDonald’s All-American Game voter/NBPA Camp Selection Committee), Ball Dawgs and Hustle2k and Nick Koza (SportsAmp.com) was there taking action photos.

BallerTV.com live-streamed all the games (with play-by-play by Patrick Pratt) and those games are archived and currently still available online at: https://www.ballertv.com/events/pangos-socal-dandy-dozen

Games at the event averaged 150-plus live-stream viewers.

The game of the day was an 17u overtime thriller between Dream Vision and Cali Stars.  Julius Von Hanzlik’s athletic and feisty squad rallied late in the 2nd half to force OT, courtesy of a 6-6 2021 Josh O’Garro 3-point bomb with 9 seconds to go. O’Garro (Santa Clarita Christian/Santa Clarita CA) followed his end of regulation heroics with more of the same in the extra period.  His 12-foot runner in the lane with 20 ticks remaining, gave his Cali Stars the 71-69 win. 6-4 2021 Corey Cofield (Birmingham/Lake Balboa CA) led Cali Stars with a game-high 24 points.

Several of the top performers at this event like Maxwell Lewis, Milos Uzan, TJ Wainwright, Joshua Jefferson, O’Garro, Glenn Taylor, Brendan Terry, Scotty Washington, Cofield, Lamaj Lewis, Kam Jefferson and Jazz Gardner also played the prior day (June 27th) at the Pangos Best of Summer Showcase and I have already highlighted their fine play there.

Here are the two reports from that event:

Here I will feature 10 of the Pangos Dandy Dozen standouts not mentioned above in recent reports:

Jeremiah Nyarko              6’8”    2022   St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)
Ghana native is both skilled and active baseline to baseline and is rapidly developing into a very good looking and athletic HM PF prospect. Nyarko is a dependable rebounder and assertive rim-protector and has also refined his jump shot over the past year or so.   Nyarko had 19 points including three “3s” in Dream Vision Next’s narrow 68-65 win over Belmont Shore.  Great kid and outstanding work-ethic.

Jorge Ochoa                    6’7”    2022   La Mirada (CA)
One of the West Coast’s and nation’s most underrated rising juniors, Ochoa is a very confident and prolific scorer that can hurt defenses in so many different ways.  Jorge has a very accurate stroke from both beyond the 3-point arc and from mid-range and can also finish at the rim with authority.  Very physical defender and rebounder had a team-high 19 points/10 boards for Bemont Shore versus Dream Vision Next.

Corey Yerger                    6’0”    2021   Grant Union (Sacramento CA)
Crafty lead guard can score in a variety of ways.  Sacramento CA native and Dream Vision Next standout scored a game-high 28 points in win over Belmont Shore.

Wayne McKinney             6’0”    2021   Coronado (San Diego CA)
Small but very strong and athletic scoring combo-guard exploded for an event high 29 points (including three 3s) in Coastal Elite Slayers’ 77-48 win over OC Pride.

Bradley Ezewiro               6’9”    2021   IMG (Bradenton FL)
Big, strong and bouncy PF has decided to postpone his arrival at LSU for a year as he continues to refine his skills and improve his maturity with a post-grad year.  Tiger signee is an underrated perimeter shooter.

Chris Howell                    6’5”    2021   Torrey Pines (San Diego CA)
Versatile combo-guard with nice length and impressive hoop IQ.  Excellent passer too.

Alexander Crawford         6’6”    2021   Mater Dei Catholic (Chula Vista CA)
Athletic forward runs well in transition and finishes well above the rim.  Shaping up to be one of the top sleepers in Southern California in 2021.

Roddie Anderson             6’0”    2022   Fountain Valley (CA)
Quick combo-guard plays hard and is creative off the bounce.

Taeo Thomas                   6’3”    2021   Verbum Dei (Los Angeles CA)
Scoring wing had 21 points in SoCal Buzz’s 75-68 win over Ocean City Elite.

Christopher Hardy           6’0”    2021   El Segundo (CA)
SoCal Buzz PG can set the table as well as score.  Had 16 points in “W” over Ocean City Elite.
